The brief and objective for the project was to provide a verdant landscape in the inner city, where all of the apartments facing the courtyard have individual vignettes of the landscape bringing a new connection and new life to the heritage buildings. The landscape courtyard provides the apartments with a new level of privacy and noise mitigation between the surrounding urban fabric whilst creating a green outlook and adding to the urban forest.

The rooftop terrace incorporates a shallow green roof that also assists in softening the outlook from surrounding apartments and providing additional ‘greening’ of the development. Meeting the challenge of planting the mature palms shows experience and technical knowledge, and demonstrates collaboration with landscape contract professionals. Similarly resolving the unique problems of minimal roof soil depth and creating the roof-top garden, plus maintaining the required micro-environment shows an understanding of materials and artificial systems available.
A beautifully realised project overall - I just want to live there.

The cooling, calming, tropical feel planting is a perfect complement to the restricted courtyard space, the Livistona and Howea palms provide a quintessentially Australian littoral rainforest ambience, with a complementary glossy understorey of mixed tropical plantings. The garden structure successfully allows filtered views through the courtyard space to the sensitively revealed heritage brickwork and juxtaposed modern architecture.
